Robert Rector was born in 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He developed his passion for printmaking, painting and drawing at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA where he received his BFA in 1971 and his MFA in 1973. His excitement for teaching others began as a teaching assistant at Louisiana State University. He continued to influence others as an Associate Professor at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, LA. In 1981, he left teaching to devote all his time and energy to painting.
His work can be found in art galleries throughout the southern region and has appeared in numerous exhibitions across the United States. Rector is currently a resident outside Baton Rouge and enjoys his mountain home in Winter Park, Colorado where he gains motivation and material for his next exciting work. “The newest paintings are about letting impulses and instincts become the guiding force.”
