In the painting Late Afternoon, Stephen Kimball combines a multitude of bright colors with a classic southern porch scene, evoking feelings of peace and solitude. A white porch takes over the center of the canvas as the sun glides in casting a shadow along the porch and painted wooden chair. Towards the front of the piece a mix of colors make up the concrete path as flowers painted in vibrant pinks and lilacs come to full bloom in the late afternoon sun.
