"Sweet Emma" Barrett was born in New Orleans in March of 1897. She was a popular, self-taught jazz pianist and singer. While she worked with a variety of jazz icons during her lifetime, Sweet Emma is often recognized as a figure in the New Orleans' Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
