Colette Pope Heldner highlighted one of Royal Street's shops in this New Orleans French Quarter scene. On the canvas' reverse side is the inscription "Old New Orleans (Paris of America)." After returning from Europe, Heldner noticed similarities between New Orleans and Paris, particularly between the French and Latin quarters.
