Melrose Plantation's African House has been restored
News

The home of Clementine Hunter's famed African House murals recently received a little TLC in the form of a brand new roof. While the murals underwent restoration themselves, the National Trust's HOPE crew, timber framers and preservation experts from the National Center for Preservation Technology and Training returned the roof to its original glory. The murals are currently on display at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum but will return home in 2016. The African House was named a National Historic Landmark and a National Trust for Historic Preservation National Treasure.
