Oil on Artist Board
18 x 24 in
One of the more impressive abstract paintings that she painted in the early 1960's. In this piece we clearly see a figure who appears to be wrapped in a very colorful garment composed of energetic patterns and shapes. The background a multicolored patchwork of vertical paint marks. They appear in no way to look representational but at the same time highly organized and well thought out. They help to lift the figure off the canvas. The signature in the lower right is indicative of her style of signature from the early 1960's. Exhibited At: A Centennial Salute to Clementine Hunter: New Orleans Museum of Art, New Orleans, LA - Feb. 23rd to April 28th, 1985.
