Biography:

George Williams was born and raised in Clinton, Louisiana. He started carving wood sculpture to stay awake when he worked the late shift at a lumberyard. He is well known for his carved male and female figures, which are either dressed or not dressed. They are painted with enamel and then varnished. He was included in the exhibition, "Passionate Visions of the American South," and his work is in the permanent collections of Birmingham Museum of Art and the National Museum of American Art Smithsonian Institution, to name a few. Williams passed away in 1997.
